Born to one of Lord Martis had many sons, of them was Jemaine Erenford, whose lot in life was not grand. He was able minded and shrewd, but his own folly was that he had a love for women. Of one, a merchant's daughter was his bastard sired. She named the boy Holden, and sent him to Heron's landing, where his father served as Dockmaster and customs' man. Given what trade Heron's landing does see, it was a fine position for a fourth son to have, outside of being sent to Oldtown or to the sept.
Jemaine, being a quiet man with no overt love of scandal quietly acknowledged the boy, and the sent him off to his uncle, Lord Myles Erenford, to raise. Myles having no son of his own, raised the lad as he could-which was a bit more boisterous and wild, than Ser Jemaine would have liked. It was Myles who secured Holden a place as a page with some distant Bracken cousin he knew.
From page, Holden moved up to a squire under his new mentor Ser Alyn Bracken, and from his knight he learned to be cold in a fight, and to be harsh, but fair in life. As it was, Holden was knighted before the tournament at Harrenhal, and sent back to Lord Myles who paid for his arms and armor.
Like all the other Freys, Holden was held back until victory at the Trident, before he rode with the others for King's Landing and stayed on for the remainder of the war. Once the business with Dragonstone was finished, Holden took his time in returning back to Heronhurst. Instead lingering in the Storm Land's for some time, in which he grew fond of a sailor's game: Liar's Dice., of which he lost what money, and respect he had won during the rebellion. As such he is often mocked as Ser Holden the Homeless, or the Poor- as he never fully recovered from his gambling debts.
Escaping paying those debts brought Holden back up to Erenford lands, where he swore service to his Uncle Miraz, who grudgingly took him on.
During the Ironborn invasion, Holden served as an Outrider for the Erenford forces during Alderbook, and various skirmishes inland. When the Riverland Lords invaded the Iron Islands, he won himself some accolaides for his fierce fighting and performance on the field..
Since then he has been back in Heron's Landing serving as an enforcer of law. Though, when tensions rose between Nayland and Charlton, it was Holden, who was dispatched to pursue the Mistletoe lords, after their raid into Erenford lands. Though men were returned, Holden's developed a poor taste in his mouth for the Harpy's fo Nayland and the Bush Lord's of Hollyholt.
